There is no bigger meditation than ‘Thank You’

Meditation in itself, from a layman point of view, is clearing your mind of frivolous, superfluous thoughts to essentially come within yourself.

Perhaps more expert definitions might state it’s really just about focusing yourself in a certain point of awareness , and just to settle into a state where you allow thoughts to be while just maintaining a concentration on something, like either your breath or an ambient sound.

In both cases, or in almost all instances, it is a about reaching a point where judgement or opinion does not exist in your mind at that very moment.

‘Just be’.

For a lot of people, including myself, exercise is a great way to meditate — because it just takes my attention away from one thing and puts me in what can be termed as a ‘Soldier’s minute’ , where nothing else exists at that moment, except the next shot or the next curl.

However, I have found that gratitude has no competitor as a form of mindful focus.

Not only does gratitude help as a focal point , but once you begin giving thanks for the events, people, possessions and experiences in your life, it just sucks you in and it is so easy to hop on that train and watch it go!

It is at this point, that I started to realize that there are no ‘little’ things or ‘bigger’ things — you know? Such as a cup of coffee (yawn!) or a warm shower (huh?) or perhaps a brand new shiny Rolex (yay, bring it on!).

There are just ‘things’ — every one of them deserving of an equal amount of gratitude.

One man’s ‘little’ thing could mean the world for another. And so we cannot underestimate the beauty and the gifts we have been granted in our life.

The best way to get more (here’s the real story right?) is to tune ourselves to the frequency of these experiences.

This is the frequency of expansion.

‘Thank You for the Warm Bed’

‘Thank You for the Warm Showers I enjoy , on demand’

‘Thank You for My Fingers’

‘Thank You that I can walk, run, jump and move about with complete freedom’

‘Thank You for my marriage, my spouse, my kids’

Are these things ‘little’?

Could something like money replace them?

Meditation = Mindfulness

Prayer = Supplication

Gratitude = Mindful Prayer on Steroids

As I am writing this, I have this creeping feeling that I may have to qualify this statement i.e. Pray to Who? Thank Who? and so on. Only You know the answers to this and it is down to each individual.

I will say this though. The act of giving thanks is an intense act of appreciation and yes, eventually we should also say thanks to ourselves and appreciate ourselves more. This leads to better thought processes, hopes, aspirations and a more positive outlook on what is inevitably a short life.

A short life which can be beautiful in all ways that we ourselves will allow.

Let us Give Thanks.
